…saw us host the very first CIA Shield event at Cirencester Rugby Club and what a night it turned out to be.
Delivered in partnership with Cirencester RFC, the event brought together players, families, and supporters from across the local area for an evening centred around grassroots rugby, community spirit, and raising money for a fantastic cause. From the opening minis fixtures through to the main event, there was a real sense of community throughout.
On the pitch, the showcase match saw the Cotswold Lionesses deliver an impressive performance, securing a 31–0 victory against Tetbury. Despite the result, Tetbury showed great determination and spirit right to the final whistle – exactly what grassroots rugby is all about.
A real highlight of the evening was welcoming our sponsored athlete and Rugby World Cup winner, Tatyana Heard. Tatyana spent time chatting with supporters, praising the standard of rugby on display across all age groups, as well as helping present medals and trophies. She also made sure to stop for photos with players and supporters alike, which meant a lot to everyone there.
Off the pitch, the charity raffle – generously supported by a wide range of local businesses – played a big part in helping us raise an incredible £1,592.17 for Maddy’s Mark.
Mark McCormick, Operations Director at CIA Fire & Security, said: “The CIA Shield was everything we hoped it would be: a fantastic community event, some great rugby on display, and a brilliant atmosphere throughout. We’re absolutely delighted to have raised such a significant amount for Maddy’s Mark, a charity doing truly important work. Thank you to everyone who supported, attended or donated, and especially those who helped behind the scenes. It really was a fantastic effort from everyone involved.”
Maddy’s Mark, which supports the mental wellbeing of girls and young women through rugby, will directly benefit from the funds raised – enough to help provide support for more than 63 girls.
After such a strong first event, we’re already looking ahead and exploring plans to bring The CIA Shield back in 2027.
