On Thursday 27th November 2014, apprentices from Gloucestershire-based Fire and Security companies CIA and Micro-Vision managed to fend off hundreds of competitors to come second in the Engineers of Tomorrow, at IFSEC’s Security & Fire Excellence Awards 2014.
The challenge pits industry apprentices against each other with a standards-based exam followed by a 90 minute practical installation exercise.
Josh Griggs-Burton of CIA and Dan Winearls of Micro-Vision, won their heat on the day but had an agonising six month wait until they found out how they fared overall.
The awards, hosted at Hilton Park Lane, were attended by over a thousand prominent industry leaders.
Colin Harrison, Managing Director of CIA Fire and Security Group, said, “We are incredibly proud of what Dan and Josh have achieved and they follow in a long line of successful apprentices at CIA. We are especially pleased with this year’s result as it is the first time since CIA purchased Micro-Vision that we have been able to show our skills as a team.”
Apprenticeships form a large part in the success of CIA and give young people the opportunity to gain a career whilst earning money at the same time. Over the last couple of years the company has expanded this programme to include Business Administration Apprentices.
